B.SC. Neuro Electro Physiology – Government Colleges in Tamil Nadu

B.SC. Neuro Electro Physiology  (3 years + Internship)

Course Overview

B.Sc. Neuro Electrophysiology will provide the knowledge, skills and practical experience to work as a professional healthcare scientist. Clinical physiologists (neurophysiology) work closely with patients of all ages to investigate the function of the nervous system in order to diagnose and monitor neurological disorders, including epilepsy, strokes, dementia, nerve and muscle dysfunction and multiple sclerosis. Candidates will gain an understanding and confidence in executing the procedures in neuro-electrophysiology including:

  • EEG (electroencephalography) – recording the electrical activity of the brain
  • Evoked potentials – brain responses as a response to specific stimuli
  • EMG (Electromyography) – recording the electrical activity of the muscle
  • NCS (Nerve Conduction Studies) – assess nerve and muscle function.
  • Video EEG ,Ambulatory EEG, Sleep Study, Magneto-encephalography, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulator, Brain Mapping and Single Fiber EMG

Career Prospects

There is a significant burden of neurological disorders in India especially in the areas of epilepsy, diabetic neuropathies, dementia, strokes and muscle dysfunction. Neuro electrophysiology is a rapidly developing field in neurosciences that transcends various aspects of neurosciences including clinical neurology, signal processing and electrophysiology.

There is a huge demand for Neuro electrophysiologists in India and worldwide including the Middle East, USA and Canada. They are employed in the following clinical area:

  • Neuro-electrophysiology Diagnostic Centers
  • Electro Encephalography (EEG)
  • Nerve Conduction studies and Electromyography
  • Single Fiber Electromyography
  • Multi mode evoked potential studies
