Tamil Nadu Medical Counselling
The Tamil Nadu Medical Counselling process for paramedical and medical courses is conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu. It is carried out in multiple rounds to allocate seats in government and self-financing institutions.
The Tamil Nadu Medical Counselling for 2024 will be conducted online by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu. This counselling is for 85% of state quota seats, while the Medical Council Committee handles the 15% All India Quota seats.

Multiple Rounds of Counselling

1. Round 1: Initial Counseling
Eligibility: All candidates listed in the provisional merit/rank list.
Process
- Online registration and choice filling for preferred colleges and courses.
- Candidates rank higher in merit lists are prioritized for seat allotment.
Outcome
- Provisional allotment letter issued.
- Candidates report to the allotted college with documents to confirm their seats.
2. Round 2: Second Counseling
Eligibility:
- Candidates who didn’t secure a seat in Round 1.
- Candidates who wish to upgrade their allotted seat.
- Those who were absent in the first round (if allowed).
Process:
- Similar to Round 1 (choice filling, seat allotment, and reporting).
Outcome:
- Seats are allotted based on remaining vacancies and candidates’ revised preferences.
3. Mop-Up Round
Eligibility:
- Candidates who haven’t been allotted a seat in previous rounds.
- Fresh applicants (sometimes allowed, depending on vacancy).
Purpose:
- To fill remaining vacant seats after the first two rounds.
Process:
- Fresh choice filling may be conducted.
- Offline counseling may be held if deemed necessary.
Eligibility
Candidates must have qualified NEET 2024 and meet the domicile requirements of Tamil Nadu. If a candidate has not completed their 12th standard from a Tamil Nadu institution, they need to provide a nativity certificate.
Documents Required
Candidates must provide their NEET scorecard, admit card, academic certificates (10th, 11th, 12th mark sheets), transfer certificate, community certificate, and other relevant documents depending on their category.

Tamil Nadu Medical Counselling Process 2024:
- Registration and Payment: Candidates must register online and pay a non-refundable fee of INR 500. Additionally, a security deposit may be required, depending on the category and the type of seat being applied for.
- Counselling Rounds: The counselling will include multiple rounds, including a mop-up round and a stray vacancy round for vacant seats.
- Choice Filling and Locking: After registration, candidates can fill in their preferred choices of colleges and courses. This must be done carefully as choices, once locked, cannot be changed.
- Document Verification: Selected candidates will need to verify their original documents at a designated venue. Original documents, including NEET scorecard, 10th and 12th mark sheets, transfer certificate, community certificate, and nativity certificate (if applicable), must be submitted.
- Reservation: Seats are reserved according to Tamil Nadu’s state policies, including categories like Open Competition, Backward Class, Most Backward Class, Scheduled Caste, and Scheduled Tribe.
- Seat Allotment and Reporting: Seats will be allotted based on NEET scores, preferences, and reservation policies. Candidates must report to the allotted institute with their provisional allotment letter.
